Why did I create it?
First and foremost, the wedding planning community makes my job as a coordinator easier. It allows me to set expectations with my clients around what is financially and logistically feasible early on. It also means that the preliminary materials (timelines/floorplans) that are brought to the first planning meeting are typically more accurate and detailed.
The wedding planning community is also the part of the business that brings me the most joy. I love to build community. I love to watch my couples bond and become friends and exchange Instagrams.
Wedding planning can feel extremely stressful for so many reasons.
- Friends and family are asking you a million questions and trying to be supportive, but really they are just stressing you out.
- Everything is SO expensive: there are so many hidden fees and the wedding industry can feel extremely predatory.
- For most, this is the first wedding you have ever planned and you don’t know what you don’t know.
We are creating a space where that stress can bring us together, rather than make us feel isolated. A space where you can meet real people who are going through a similar stressful experience and support each other.
What makes this different/special?
I believe a different kind of connection happens when you are able to talk to people face-to-face. Being able to hear someone’s tone of voice and read their facial expressions builds a certain level of trust that I do not think is possible with online messaging/facebook groups.
There is also a certain amount of filtering that happens with our wedding planning community. Imperfect Events attracts a specific kind of couple: grounded, budget-conscious, creative, fun, genuine, human, nature-lovers, nerds, non-traditional, LGBTQ+, etc.
We attract people who are getting married because they want to celebrate their love with those whom they care about the most.
People who pour themselves into their planning in order to create the most authentic and unique wedding celebration.
I believe we are creating a space where people can form genuine friendships that could last beyond the wedding planning period of their lives. In a culture and society that feels isolating/difficult to make genuine adult friendships, I aim to create a place where people can do just that.
